QUARANTINE pt 2

Flockers!

Did you join in our very first virtual pub quiz last night? If you missed it, you should still be able to see the full video right here! Our quiz mistress extraordinaire did a fabulous job, as usual. We’re crossing our hooves that she might do another one soon… stay tuned!
Until then, let’s have a peek at what else we were up to before le lockdown kicked in, shall we?

FEBRUARY

February kicked off with the Super Bowl! We had applied for a special late license and finally got the thumbs up, unfortunately a bit late in the game as the confirmation came through the day before the big game.. so without much time for promo we invited football flockers and hoped for the best! We had a great little crew come in in the end, we cheered, sang along with Shakira & J. Lo and ate nacho plates, which then became a regular feature on our menu!

Flaming shots came back in to style! Anything that could be set on fire, was set on fire. 🔥🔥🔥

We had a couple of fun birthday celebrations, complete with homemade cake, dancing and live music (hi Gael!) 🎈

New drinks were created! Colourful ones, sweet ones, tall ones, short ones. And slammers! February was the month of tequila slammers. Fun, delicious and kept reminding us that we needed to invest in heavy duty plastic glasses…

We planned for a Saint Patrick’s day that we wouldn’t be able to celebrate… we got O’haras beer in, practised our half and halfs, started a playlist, had green hats and t-shirts delivered. We’ll be super-prepped for next year..!

What else? Kat’s amazing pub quiz every week of course, one especially memorable one was the time that Alex guessed our pop quiz question: which two kinds of pasta did we have for dinner? We still don’t quite understand how he guessed both fussilli and serpentini 😄
February was also Palentine’s day (with tequila slammers, hehe) and Abba singalong night with the Scandies 😉
Next time we’ll have a look at what we managed to squeeze into the first half of March, stay tuned for more virtual Sheepy fun times!

Baah and stay healthy flock, we miss you! 🐑🐑✨

QUARANTINE pt 1

Hello beloved flock!

How are you holding up all cooped up at home? Do you miss us yet? We sure miss you! We can’t wait to see you all again when this is all over.
It’s been a while since our last update, we got busy! Having said that, The Sheep didn’t have the easiest start – first it was the gilet jaunes who favoured Bastille as a gathering point, then the biggest transport strike in Parisian history, and now a global pandemic 🙃 but as some of you have already remarked, if we can get through this, we can get through anything!

So for now, let’s have a peek at what we’ve been up to since the last update!

JANUARY

We had a couple of surprises at the very start of the year. The first one was that we would no longer get pies delivered from our Kiwi-source! Our plan had always been to move on to homemade ones, but we were hoping for a bit more time to prepare. On January 8th the experimenting started, it was the New Zealanders in France-associations first monthly meetup and we wanted them to be the first to sample. The pies have gone through a bit of a transformation since then, and are now (well, now in the more general sense of the word…) a big part of our bar-life!

Surprise number 2 was that we FINALLY got the Guinness tap installed! We had been waiting a good three months for it to happen, we know some flockers were very impatient…

Other fun stuff in January included Australia day, Kat’s fa-mouse quiz growing and growing (I believe we hit a new high with 14 teams and 27 pies sold in one night..!), new fancy blackboards, the dart board arriving and just hanging out with all of you guys.

That’s all for now flock, we’ll pop back in here soon with the continuation of this years happenings 🥳

Until then, stay safe, wash your hands, do a little dance and stay in touch will you? Baah and love from us 🐑🐑✨

January 6th-12th 2020 🥳

Flock! It’s a new decade!!
We may not have taken a break from our beloved bar(n), but we did take a break from the updates as we figured most of you flockers were away and busy with family stuff. But now we’re all back, right?
Are you ready to kick off the year with your favourite black sheep?
🐑✨
Before we go any further we’d like to thank everyone who came in over the holidays – The Sheep’s first Christmas and New Years was a big success thanks to you guys!

After our double trouble Christmas we were right in to prepping for the Sheep’s first NYE! The theme was obviously going to be Roaring 20’s, not only perfect for the change of decade but also so much fun stuff that comes with it! Feathers, outfits, the music, the dancing! A big hit that we’ll be talking about for weeks to come!

There in between we’ve hosted a one year in Paris-party (complete with homemade carrot cake!), tried our best to avoid protesters, walked a LOT as this strike seems never ending 🙃, said goodbye to some dear friends (Frida and Valentyne, we’re missing you!) and had a bunch of really fun night with you guys: our ever growing herd of black sheep ❤

So let’s kick off the year with Kat’s quiz (starting Tuesday the 7th at 20h, then on every Tuesday after that!), shall we?

Baah-ye for now flockers, see you soon!

December 16th-22nd

Calling all holiday flockers! We’re halfway through December, can you believe it?? 15 days left of this decade…!
The 20th of December (friday!) marks 3 months of our existence, it both feels like time has absolutely flown by (HOW have we already been around for 3 months?!) and also like we’ve been here for ever. Was there a life before The Sheep?
Anyway, enough about that! So what have we been up to this week? Well, we’ve done a lot of walking as these strikes don’t seem to be ending any time soon. Luckily, so have a lot of you guys too! We can’t help but worry that the lack of trains will affect us, but you guys have really made an effort to come out and see us ❤
Tuesday was of course quiz night, with the special section being Monty Python! One of the best turnouts we’ve had so far for a quiz, it’s so much fun seeing it grow! Then most of the week was spent making the place cosy and Christmas-y 🎄
Friday the 13th was a big deal in Sweden, as it was Lucia! A holiday that entails mulled wine, singing, getting together with friends and family, and a pretty morbid history. Read about it here, I especially recommend the bit about Lussi. We celebrated with baking of Swedish Christmas treats, a 100% Scandi playlist and Hot Shots! A thing that apparently is not at all a thing outside of Sweden?!
On Saturday we had a booking for a couple of birthday parties, which is always a lot of fun for us! Everyone comes in all excited, there’s normally cake and balloons involved and just a general really happy, fun crowd. People kept dropping in throughout the night and we had a good rhythm going. Then midnight hit and 50 people turned up all at once, at an already fairly busy Sheep! So then it was GO GO GO for the next hour and a half, until we had to kick everyone out and could sit down for the first time that night. Phew!
Sunday was as usual NFL night, with friends who came in to play beer pong and the odd Mexican Threeway shot! You’ll have to come see us to find out what that is…

This week we’re excited about the years last quiz tomorrow! No special section this week, but all about the year that has passed. So read through some of the years major events, listen to some new stuff and come on over to show off your skills and win some boozy prizes!
We’re constantly trying to improve here chez le sheep, this week has already seen a bit of a change to the centre of the bar, will you be able to spot it next time you come in?

OH! I almost forgot another fun thing that happened this week! We’re in Funkymaps!! So come on down and grab your copy, so that you too can check out the coolest expat bars in the city!

Baah-ye for now flockers, see you soon for more sheepy good times 🐑✨

December 9th-15th

Baah, baah! Is anyone out there? Or are you all on strike?
As for us, we’re leaving the greve to the disgruntled French and we’re keeping on, keeping on. The continuing strike has affected us in the way of that it now takes 45 minutes on foot to get to the baah-r for us, rather than 20 on the metro. At least we decided to alter our opening hours last week, so now we open at 17h on weekdays and 12h on weekends! Gives us a bit more time to get set up (and a well needed extra hour of sleep every now and again!), we’re still here pretty much all day though so if any of our little flockers want to come by for a coffee and a chat we welcome the company!
So aside from Parisians on foot, what else happened last week? Well, the strike actually didn’t stop too many of you from coming by! ❤
Last Monday we welcomed a group of peeps from the neighbourhood, who’s friend was moving to Canada. We served planches, shots of fireball and put up fairy lights outside ✨ The guy headed to Canada wasn’t the only going away that night though, our lovely Swedish friends Selma and Joel came in for a last pint before their big trip to New Zealand! They first stumbled upon us a couple of months ago, in our first baah-r babysteps when we had cinnamon bun-mania, so they’ve been with us from the very start. We were so sad to see them go, but we of course wish them all the best and we’re hoping that they’ll come to see us next they’re back in Europe!

On Tuesday we had our fabulous weekly quiz, with the special section being the Norse Gods! A tricky section as it turns out. The theme for the music was covers, you had to name the song, the artist who interpreted the song and if it was a cover or the original! A fun idea that one team (here’s looking at you Kat!) got 100% on 😮trés impressive. Tonight the winners chosen section is Monty Python – we’re excited to see what Kat has come up with for that!
Tuesday was also the day that we hit 500 followers on Facebook! 🥳✨ you guys are amazing!!

On Wednesday the New Zealanders in France-association had their weekly pub night chez nous, which once again coincided with the french cineast group Sequence7. A busy night that had an abrupt end when everyone left more or less at the exact same time to catch the last form of transport for the night! Pretty comical to see the place go from busy to completely empty in the span of 5 minutes, haha. On Thursday our buddies Chris and Kat (the same Kat that hosts our quiz) came in to hang out, with their beautiful doggo Rory ❤ we put on Christmas music, Duncan made some holiday themed drinks and put up our brand spankin’ new dart board!
On Friday we had a big group booked to come in, the Australians of Paris had organised their Christmas drinks here with us! 96 people had confirmed on the website, but we were worried that most wouldn’t make it due to the lack of transport.. but lo and behold, at least 50 made it! A perfect amount really, people didn’t have to wait for too long for drinks or food and people could easily mingle. The organisers had set up a quiz and other games, we had prepared a pavlova and we had Aussie classics playing all night. A really lovely night! They’ve already booked the 25th of January for their big Australia Day Party! So if you’re looking for a sausage roll and some ozzie good times to cheer you up in the cold dark winter, you know where to find it!
Saturday was yet another going away, when we waved off our friend Rebekah, who was off back to New Zealand. We had a few drinks, served vegan banana bread and tried to cushion the blow of yet another friend leaving with a bit of Christmas cheer. Come back and visit us sometime Rebekah, please ❤ it was a fun night though, with people coming in to watch the Joshua v Ruiz boxing match, we were a lot busier than we had expected!
We rounded off the week on Sunday with homemade pizza and NFL on our three big screens, a perfect way to end the week.

Week two of la greve has kicked off and we’re hoping that our lovely flockers keep on coming in anyway – we’re ready to lift your spirits with tasty snacks, bevvies and our beautiful Christmas tree Baah-rbara (as in arbre, get it, get it??)!
We’re throwing a big Swedish/Scandinavian Christmas party on Friday for Lucia – everyone who’s up for Swedish Christmas treats and hot shots are welcome! 🤶🎅

Now it’s time for us to get set up for tonights quiz, hope to see you there!!

December 2nd-8th

Baaah-njour flock!

It’s December guys!! Time to deck the halls and get jolly!
We’ve picked up our very first decorations today, a tree has been ordered and recipes are being pinned left, right and centre 🎄
But let’s have a look at last week first, when we were still in rainy November. On Monday Elin flew off to Sweden for a few days, and left Duncan to run the barn toute seule. While E spotted real, live black sheep in the Swedish countryside, D. held down the fort and planned for a rockin’ thanksgiving! By the time Elin got back and came running in to the bar on Thursday night, suitcase in hand, a Parisian Gypsy Swing band were playing and the kitchen was stuffed with a full Thanksgiving feast! There was a whole roast turkey, cheese & garlic mash, delicious, rich gravy, green beans with rocket & almond pesto, mac & cheese and stuffing 🤤 A superfun night that has inspired us to look at doing live music on a regular basis. Stay tuned for that! Skipping back a couple of days to Tuesday, Kat was away but Linda came out to play! She generously accepted our offer of standing in as quiz hostess and served up a quiz with sections such as Famous scientists, cute animal facts and musicals! Thank you Linda, you’re a star ✨
Friday we continued on the Thanksgiving fun times, with turkey melts on delicious sourdough bread from our friends at Ten Belles Bread (a big hit that we’re keeping on the menu!) beer pong and tokyo balls, the most intense game ever, haha! A rowdy, fun night. There was to be no rest for the 2 black sheep behind the bar, Saturday we had not one, but two birthday parties booked! Thomas, from South Africa, and Maite who’s French but soon off to New Zealand (again!), we love the international crowds we get in, on any given night you meet people from all corners of the world chez nous ❤💃🕺
We rounded off the week on Sunday with NFL & Elin’s homemade pizza. Cheered for the Greenbay Packers and admired our new dart board, not installed yet but hopefully soon!

This week we’re excited for the quiz, Kat’s back and this weeks special round is the Norse Gods! We’re a little bit nervous about le grève du 5 décembre (massive public transport strikes), we’re hoping that some of our lovely lambs will still make it out to see us! Today we’re waving goodbye to our good Swedish friends Selma and Joel, who are moving to New Zealand. We’re very sad to see them go, but we know that they’ll have a great time and hopefully they’ll be back to see us before long! We’re crossing our hooves that transport will be back to at least semi normal on Friday the 6th, when we’ve got a massive Australian Christmas drinks-get together booked!
Now it’s time for us to wipe the tables and open up the doors, see you here soon flock – we’ll be waiting for you with warming drinks and tasty toasties 🐑✨

November 25th-December 1st

Hi ewe guys!

Time for our weekly check in with the flock! We hope that you’ve had a good week, enjoyed some of the sun and that you’re ready for some sheepy good times! Can you believe that we’re almost in December?

Our past week has been filled with beer pong & tokyo balls, a new cocktail menu, baking of quiche, installing of a robotcoupe (for all those tasty dips that come with the planche!), of course Kat’s weekly quiz and a cheeky Sunday Funday to round things off. We also got in an order of Cooneys, an apple-y, refreshing cider straight from Ireland! We’ve made some slight changes to the bar itself, the area behind the pillar is now a bit more spacious. Perfect for when the beer pong table comes out… We had our second rum tasting with Francois from Santa Teresa, the tasting might be over but the rum is still on our shelf, complete with our own label and all!

The upcoming week will be a tad different, as one of our black sheep has jetted off for a few days. But do not fret, Duncan is staying put to refill your glasses and serve you tasty platters & pies! Our quiz mistress extraordinaire is also out of town (even reigning quiz champion Marion is away! The herd is spreading!), filling in for her on Tuesday will be the lovely Linda – so come on in at eight o’clock and give her a wool-y warm welcome!!
Thursday will kick off the weekend with a Thanksgiving potluck, complete with Parisian gypsy swing jazz! We’ll continue on on Friday with a big after thanksgiving-party. There will be turkey melts, beer pong and good times guaranteed! Saturday is birthday-time, with 2 birthday parties booked! As per usual we do not privatise, so doors are open to anyone who wants to join in the fun 🥳
We’ll be finishing off the week with NFL Sunday, bien sur!

So stop what you’re doing, go keep Duncan company and then pick your events for the week! Baah and love from us! 🐑✨

November 18th-24th

Calling all cold flock members! Time to wool up, winter is coming!

We’re staying warm inside, especially on nights like Saturday past when we had an absolutely rammed bar!
But one thing at a time – this week started with two tired black sheep coming in on Monday morning after Sunday Funday. We were expecting a super quiet day, possibly even closing early and getting the last metro home. But there would be no such thing, we had some lovely flockers come in and it turned in to Monday Funday! The beer pong table came out again, friends were called and we ended up keeping the party from Sunday going!
Tuesday was Quiz night with Kat as usual, this week with rounds such as New Zealand Geography (last weeks winners choice!), French Cuisine and Guitar Solos! On the menu was a chocolate encrusted Pumpkin pie, made from scratch, bien sûr. The baking continued on Wednesday, when fellow Swede Selma came in to prepare a “kladdkaka”, a Swedish chocolate gooey cake. Mmmm.
On Friday we had our first Santa Teresa Rhum tasting! A delicious, warming treat for the brave lambs who made it out through the cold. Saturday started out a bit wobbly, with the Gilets Jaunes taking to the streets. Smoke bombs were going off and riot police ran down our street. Luckily things calmed down quickly and we could proceed to prepping for this weeks highlight – good friend Mehdi’s birthday party! The bar was packed, 80’s and 90’s tracks got people dancing and homemade pizza was on the menu. So much fun that some of us sheep continued on to the Yellow Mad Monkey for a little afterparty.
Sunday was chilled, with NFL on the screens, take out and litchi daquiris.

Another great week chez le Sheep!

This week we’re looking forward to the Quiz, another rhum tasting (Friday at 20h for those who missed out last week, or simply want another go!) and yet another birthday party!

So brave the cold, come in and cosy up with us! Baah for now 🐑✨

November 11th-17th

Hello and happy Monday darling flock!

We hope that you’ve had a lovely long weekend, and that we’ll get to catch up with you all in the next few days!
We’ve had a busy week here at the Sheep, we were worried it would feel empty now that the rugby world cup is over and done with, but you guys have kept us company 🥰
At the start of the week we had our little bestie Leo the black pug come visit us. He manned the bar for a couple of nights, snuggled with you guys and added a little chilled out je ne sais quoi to the whole atmosphere. Tuesday night was of course our big hit – Kat’s Quiz night! The special sections were the tv series Friends and the movies of Will Ferrell, the team New Zanada took it home and got to choose this weeks special section: The geography of New Zealand! We also got a delivery (thanks Tristan!) of Paname Brewing Company glasses, so now you can enjoy your Pale Ale in the proper glass.
Wednesday was a big night, as we had both the New Zealanders of France in for their monthly pub night AND the Sequence 7 cineastes-group for their monthly meetup! A full bar with a fun mix of people and cultures.
The rest of the week we enjoyed our homemade pumpkin soup, hung out with you guys, experimented with shots and put together new, fun playlists.
Sunday was a highlight of the week for us, with our very first Sunday Funday! As Monday was a public holiday, we decided to party it up, Black Sheep style 🐑🥳 Black Sheep style in this case meant Hawaiian beach shirts, glitter, 90s summer hits, rainbow shots and beer pong! It was also our friend Sofie’s birthday, we prepared a special drinks menu and party hats for her and her crew, we hope she had a great night – we certainly enjoyed hosting 🤗

Today we’re prepping for the upcoming week; quiz night tomorrow, with a special sweet treat on the menu, Santa Teresa rhum tasting on Friday, a birthday party for 50 people on Saturday (still open for anyone who wants to join, of course!) and other fun surprises – stay tuned, shoot us a message, come in for a cold pint!

Don’t be a shy lamb, join the flock of Black Sheep! 🐑❤✨

November 4th-10th

Hello our beautiful flock!

Hope you are all doing well, and that you’ve recovered from Halloween and the long weekend, we haven’t quite 😂
We’ve had the busiest weekend so far in our 6 weeks of being open. It started out sneakily last Tuesday, with Kat’s Halloween themed quiz! We had a good crowd in who competed in spooky knowledge and munched down on our pies and planches. Our friend Marion is our reigning champion, as she’s been on both weeks winning teams! Who’s gonna de-throne her? Will anyone? Come in tomorrow to find out!
Thursday was finally the day we’d been waiting for, The Sheep’s very first Halloween party!!! We spent the day putting up decorations, from 6 o’clock it was go, go, GO! The three of us who were working behind the bar ran around like headless lambs, trying to keep on top of things. We ran out of glasses, ice and at one point our card machine stopped working. Slightly stressful to say the least – but SUCH a FUN night!!
The next morning, when the alarm went off at 8AM, felt less fun… but two hours later we had a bunch of lovely kiwis in for the fight for the bronze in the world cup. We served up brunch plates, bloody marys and flat whites, still with a smidgen of Halloween makeup on our faces. That night it was Jaimy & Piersons engagement party! No rest for the Sheep! A night of love, games and B52 shots.
Fast forward to Saturday, when the alarm went off at 8AM again and it was time to get in to gear for the Rugby world cup Final! Breakfast, chanting and a big South African victory! A really fun morning, and great way to wrap up this years world cup.
Saturday night our friend Eileen had booked us for her birthday party. She brought decorations and cake, we provided kiwi music, pies and Oyster Bay wine.
That brings us to Sunday, and the end of the week. For the first time in 2 months we had a sleep in! Came back to work, still fairly tired, but so excited about this massive long weekend. Also very excited about our little pug-friend Leo, who came to stay with us for a couple of nights. What a treat! He immediately made himself at home behind the bar and had a well deserved snooze.

This week is serving up another quiz night (bien sur!) with our lovely host Kat, the two special sections this week will be Friends and the movies of Will Ferrell! The music section, which was replaced with movies last week, is back by popular demand! We’ve ordered some new fun stuff today as well, so come on by, have a look, a chat and a beer and some sheepy good times with us!
